Scuba Diving with Dive Palancar

Dive Palancar, a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm and NAUI dive operation, operates full service dive shop out of the Grand Cozumel, including dive docks, gear rental and gear storage.

Luckily for guests of the Occidental Grand Cozumel the majority of the top dive sites are located just off our southern shore. While divers staying at more northern accommodations in San Miguel have had to rise and shine early to join the small armada of dive boats racing south, you can still be sipping your morning coffee or getting another hour of sleep!

All of the dives conducted on Cozumel, regardless of zone visited, follow the same dive protocol: dives along the deep vertical walls and coral pinnacles are the first dives of the day. Naui Dive OoperatorThe second dive and afternoons dives visit shallower sites along the edge of the drop off areas or the shallows of the nearby coral gardens. Every boat has a captain and a mate who remain on board monitoring the divers. All dives are lead by the dive guide, with the dive boat following the group’s bubble trail until it is time for the divers to surface.

Because Dive Palancar is located so close to the reefs, the boats are able to return to the docks after each dive for the surface interval. This enables divers to exit the boat for a short “time out” before heading out again on the next boat, or calling it a morning and diving again at a later afternoon hour or the next day.

Boats depart at 9:00 A.M. for the deepest dive of the day (80 - 130 ft) and at 10:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. for the most shallow dives of the day (40 - 60 ft.) The 2 :00 P.M. boat generally departs for a mid range dive of depths between 60 - 80 ft. Night Dives are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday or Friday and depart shortly before sunset for dives between 30 - 60 ft.

Trips to advanced sites such as Punta Sur and Maracaibo Deep are only done upon request, but can be done any day there are at least 6 divers available for the trip.

Dive Palancar also offers Dive Instruction for ALL levels of skill, from beginners to professional certified instructors. Referrals from ALL agencies are welcome!!
