Puerto Plata Scuba Diving Information

Numerous dive spots map the Dominican Republic’s North Coast amid waters with little or no current, making more sites ideal for newly certified divers. The diving is focused in three main areas: Luperon, Puerto Plata and Sosua.

Luperon Dive Sites

Luperon Bay: An area with abundant orange elephant ear sponges and large sea fans. Marine life includes small tropical fish, barracudas, large groupers and snappers.
The Luperon Wall: This 75 to 130 foot wall dive, best suited for advanced divers, is a great place to see barracuda, manta rays, moray eels and lobsters.
The Luperon Caves: One of our most popular dive sites in the area, these large caves are located in just 30 feet of water, making a visit to them ideal for all levels of certification.

Puerto Plata Dive Sites

Airport Wall: The wall begins at a depth of 40 feet and offers caverns, mazes and an abundance of tropical fish, sea fans and eels.
Five Rocks: As its name suggests, there are five immense rocks covered by coral and plenty of colorful marine life, lobsters and crabs.
The Caves: Two of them to be exact, are recommended for experienced divers yet still give way for very easy maneuverability. Characterized by their grand entrance, they extend approximately 50 ft. in length at a depth of 80ft. Cave dwellers include lobster, eel and grouper.
The Canyon: An ideal dive for junior certified divers, this 35 ft. site showcases a variety of coral formations such as sea fans and barrel sponges, colorful Queen Angelfish and Yellow-Tail Snapper.

Sousa Dive Sites

Three Rocks: A popular shallow dive in only 55 ft with abundant reef fish.
Larimar: Named after the beautiful semi-precious blue stone found in the Dominican Republic, this site features a wall that extends from 30ft. to a depth of 60 ft. at which point the scenery changes to sand flats dipping to 100 ft.
Mini-Wall: A perfect dive for junior certs or new divers, this wall begins in only 20 ft. and slopes gradually to a mere 65 ft. with good visibility all the way.
The Garden: Aptly describes the spectacular and colorful marine life that intermingles with the fan coral and tube sponges. See for yourself just how many varieties you can identify. The Garden extends to a depth of 80 ft. and is considered ideal for all levels of divers. A trip to the garden is a casual 10 min. boat ride.
